What does sea cucumber taste like?

i dont like the taste of it.It tastes funny....|||There are 3 major types of sea cucumber, black, white and black sea cucumber with spikes which is the most expensive. The texture of spiky sea cucumbers is more chewy than those without, those without spikes are softer and melts completely into the stew if cooked for long hours. Basically it doesn't have any taste, it just absorbs whatever it's cooked in and with, therefore it's never cooked alone or without a lot of condiments. It usually feels slippery, gel like, gooey or rubbery depending on which kind. It's completely different from sea urchin.|||honestly? im 15. BUT im also asian. that might change the factors a bit. But, i can tell you this: if you dont know what it is you wont notice. the first time i ate it, i thought it was steamed eggplant. it was in soup so the taste was... well, the soup. its actually not too bad. but i dont think its like sea urchin... but its been awhile since ive had sea urchin so i could be wrong.|||I worked in Asia, in both Singapore and Japan, I had it many ways from Indonesian style, all the Chinese versions, in Japanese stewed hot pots and Chanko soups, it has no real flavour, like shark fins and white fungus is is thought to have curative processes and a male enhancement power. It is soft, gelatinous, a bit funky in flavour, like a fishy gel, now exact flavour to me, we stewed it in highly flavoured sauce with X.O sauce and garlic, soya sauce, Shao Zhin wine and star anise, these do mask any odd flavours well.|||The flavor is not the issue because its not overbearing but the texture is disgusting. It's a gelatinous mushy fish. If Okra were a fish, it would be a sea cucumber
