I photographed an unknown sea creature at low tide. It was about 18 inches and tangled. It had tentacles and looked like when a snake sheds its skin. When my brother poked it, the creature had undulating movements. if it were not so snake-like I would say sea cucumber. My brother said it was a sea worm. However my research of sea worm did not come close to what I saw at the beach. For now I am calling it tingum but I would like to identify it.|||yes, there's a sea worm...i've already seen that kind of creature and these worms usually live under the sand...|||I Have No Idea Mebbe You Found A New SPecis :[]|||Contact a Marine Biologist at University.
Really hard to determine from your discription.
Did you get a picture? Oh, you did. Take it with you when you go to see an expert.
You say it was definitely about a foot and a half?
That's pretty big.|||there's pics on this site:
"The sea worms are a large and varied group of animals belonging to a group called annelida. They are segmented worms, and all bear at least some resemblance to the common earthworm. In the ocean, however, the worms have evolved many different appearances. One of the more interesting varieties is the tube worms. These animals form a hard-shelled tube that provides them protection. The feather duster worms have a series of feathery tentacles on top that are used to filter nutrients from the water. "

Can I still eat Sea Cucumber?
Is it okay to eat an animal named a vegetable name? Not that these things taste good, mind you. And let's face it, on the cute scale, this thing is somewhere between trench warfare and oak bark. Plus! It is probably dumber than a Michael Moore movie. So, rapacious devourers of our semi-sentient vegetal brethren, what say you?|||Holothuroideas or Sea Cucumbers are much smarter then a Michael Moore movie, I suggest you read up on them. They are animals so you can't call yourself a vegetarian and eat them.|||I would say no, personally. Never tried one though and don't want to!|||Bluck that's like going to Cicily where NO part of the cow is uneaten. Lol sea cucumber are dumb they leave a gigantic trail on the ocean floor. I wouldn't want to eat one whether it was legal or not.|||It is seafood, just because it has a vegetable name doesn't mean it is edible though, but it is very popular in Japanese cuisine. There are also sea sponges but you wouldn't use it to clean dishes.
I have what looks to be tiny sea cucumbers in my reef tank, should I be concerned?
These so called tiny sea cucumbers are up to 3/8" long, semi-transparent with an orange tint and little white spikes sticking out. They are coming up out of the sand bottom. (I can see them pressed against the glass, under the sand) So far i've counted about a dozen.|||They could be sea cucumbers or a type of bristle worm (A photo would be helpful). You have a reef tank, sea cukes are a no no. Some will eat the corals you have. Sounds more like a type of bristle worm, they have their good points and their bad points. I keep mine and allow them to do all the clean up. they will eat brine shrim and food that fish miss. however you do not want an infestation either. Banded shrimp are used to control them as well as anemone. Again, be careful when choosing any of these to ensure what you have in your tank is compatable.
Bristle worms usually hide in the rocks, but are known to also hide in the sand. DO NOT TOUCH THEM. Removing with tweezers is almost impossiable. they are quick. If you feel you do not want them, the easiest way to rid your tank is to use panty hose. a piece of panty hose with pellet foods or a piece of frozen shrimp or fish tied up and placed at the bottom of the tank. Leave it over night and remove it and the worms in the morning. their spikes get caught in the netting and they cannot retreat to their hiding places. Traps don't work. Banded shrimp are great to keep the little ones under control however a large worm (8" or more) has been known to attack these shrimp while resting.
Repost or email me a photo and I will try to help from there.|||They don't sound like sea cucumbers...more like a type of worm that you don't want!!!! Use tweezers to get them out. (I can't remember what they are called right now....) Go to saltwaterfish.com and read their chat boards. You will get a lot of info there. Post your questions there and you will get answers from people who have had tanks for years! Good luck to you!|||okay i just researched this and this what i got out of it, yes you do have sea cucumbers and yes i would be concerned a little , they can be dangerous. this how i found about it.|||Bristle worms.
As long as they are not large they should be ok but when you see them, try to remove them.
They can prick your fingers so use a small net if possable.

Which is cuter - seahorse, starfish, sea cucumber, jellyfish?
a seahorse is adorable to begin with, but even more Irresistable because he has to carry the babes :)|||I think the sea horse is the cutest since none of the other creatures have a face. Also, a sea cucumber looks like a log of poo. Some jellyfish are extremely beautiful but not at all "cute" in my opinion. Dolphins will always be the cutest though...nobody can resist a dolphin.|||seahorse. especially the really really really little ones.|||i think its a jellyfish a sea cucumber looks grose the sea horse looks weard the star fish looks simple so i have to say:

Any recipe using sea cucumber???
You have to freeze it first, so that you can slice it.
then, fry the slices in butter, with a bit of seaweed (don't laugh, I'm serious). the black, bubbly sort.
Serve with rice.|||yea i made a cucmber pie it is very good u need blood worms dog ****|||After throwing sea cucumber back into the sea when fishing...I don't think anybody would like to eat them or find them very appetizing YUK!
